Appointments

Your First Orthodontic Visit

At your first visit the Orthodontist will examine your face, mouth and teeth. Moulds may be taken of your teeth, along with necessary X-rays, although this is more commonly done at your second appointment (diagnostic records appointment). We will then be able to provide you with a detailed treatment plan. No actual treatment will be carried out at this appointment.

Brace Fitting Appointment

This appointment takes somewhere between 30-40 minutes to complete. There is no drilling or injections involved in this process.Instead the teeth are gently cleaned before the braces are glued to the teeth using the most modern adhesives available that even allow us to stick braces to filled teeth. This process causes no damage or marking to the teeth. After this the wire is placed into the brackets and we give comprehensive aftercare instructions.

Treatment Length

For orthodontic treatment to be successful, it needs the total cooperation of the patient (and parents for childrens orthodontic treatment). On average treatment usually takes 12-24 months to complete. Some complicated orthodontic problems may require slightly longer.

Brace Removal Appointment

At this appointment the braces are gently removed and the teeth carefully polished to reveal your beautiful new smile. This appointment takes between 20 and 30 minutes depending on the type of brace you had and the retainer you are having fitted.

All treatment is then followed by a period of retention to hold the teeth in their new positions. It is important that during your orthodontic treatment you continue to see your own dentist for regular dental check ups.

Self Referral

Private patients can refer themselves to the practice for initial assessment, however if possible we do prefer that your own general dentist is involved in the referral process. Please phone for a consultation appointment stating that you are a self referring private patient.

Cancellations

If you need to cancel your appointment, please advise us at least 24 hours prior. We will aim to re-schedule your appointment for a convenient time but cannot guarentee that there will not be a delay.
